Introduction

We are looking for a talented electronics engineering undergraduate to join our world class multidisciplinary team of engineers to help solve complex technical challenges across a broad range of industries.

This is a 6 month internship intended for students taking an industrial placement as part of their degree.  This will be available to start any time between August 2024-Spring 2025 and will be 6 months in duration.

The role

We combine highly creative lateral thinking with excellent technical skills and a broad base of industry experience to form a powerful development team for our clients.  Our work ranges from undertaking complete product developments from concept to manufacture, to providing consulting services for our clients on their technology, innovation, and R&D processes.

The Electronic Design group delivers interesting and complex electronic developments across the broad range of projects undertaken by the Cambridge Consultants We have a focus on projects where designing challenging electronics enables us to exceed our clients’ expectations.

Some recent projects that we’ve been involved in include:

Every project we do is different – we are always innovating rather than iterating, so each new project will be a brand-new challenge.

What you'll be doing

Our project work can encompass the complete lifecycle of a project.  Therefore, you could be involved with projects at some, or all, of the different stages:

  • Ideas generation – brainstorming what a product could look like and how it would work
  • Requirements capture – writing down what we are going to do for our client
  • Architecture design – how a project will be broken down into modules for design and test purposes
  • Detailed design – designing circuits, prototyping circuits, drawing schematics, designing PCBs, writing software and documenting the design.
  • Integration of the hardware with other modules and engineering disciplines
  • Testing the design meets the requirements
  • Transfer to a manufacturing partner for volume production

You must meet the requirements to obtain UK Security Clearance or already have it.

What you can bring

We would expect you to have a great academic background and be on course for a 1st or 2:1 in a relevant STEM  degree.

More importantly, you should have a genuine passion for engineering and learning.

You may be able to bring experience in some of these areas to the role from your university course:

  • Analogue electronics and sensing
  • Digital electronics and control system design
  • Power electronics
  • RF electronics and antenna design
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Software development – embedded microcontroller code and/or Python

However, not ticking all the boxes isn’t a problem.  You will be surrounded by experts in their field so this is a great opportunity to learn something new.
