We are responsible for supporting and advising our staff who work in a wide range of fields including medical technology, wireless communications, consumer, industrial, energy and defence.
Role Description
The SHE Advisor will provide a high standard of support to our engineering and offices staff. You will be expected to work with the current SHE Team to implement the SHE systems and procedures. You will promote a culture of safe working practices across the organisation, as well as having the appropriate people skills to ensure that staff members are supported. Strong communication skills are key to ensure the respect and buy-in of support, project, laboratory, and administration staff alike.
You will be hands-on and have the ability to demonstrate a flair for pragmatic and realistic solutions, and a healthy curiosity when observations are made, by using your breadth of experience across a diverse range of issues.
This is a UK based role in Cambridge. However, support to the offices in the US and Singapore will be required.
Specific responsibilities
- Supporting the development and maintenance of the current health and safety management system
- Supporting the SHE manager to ensure compliance with all current legislation, codes of practice and relevant standards
- Supporting the SHE manager with advising on building and facilities safety e.g., Fire systems, water quality, asbestos and upcoming building and renovation projects
- Working closely with the Building Services Department and assisting with review of third-party risk assessments and method statements, advising on Permit to Work
- Attending regular building works project meetings as the SHE representative
- Involvement in coaching various support teams on the safety requirements for service contractors on site and following contractor control procedure
- Involvement in Emergency Response Coordination and Emergency Preparedness and Business continuity matters
- Involvement in the creation and review of Health and Safety procedures and guidance notes
- Supporting the SHE manager with the generation of annual Health and Safety plans
- Supporting the SHE manager with routine reviews and the status of on-site statutory inspections
- Involvement in scientific laboratory safety matters and providing advice on risk assessments and safe working practices
- Provision of pragmatic and realistic general SHE advice, guidance, coaching and training to managers, staff and contractors
- Provision of pragmatic and realistic project related SHE advice, including project SHE risk assessments, travel and off-site working
- Involvement in the generation of and development of risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Working closely with other teams and supporting on risk assessments for onsite and off-site events
- Investigation of near misses and adverse events and the creation of root cause investigations and reports with the SHE manager
- Involvement in internal and external site inspections and audits and implementation of corrective actions
- Supporting the SHE manager with occupational health matters including DSE and expectant mother risk assessments
- Providing safety training and contributing to safety meetings
- Assisting with maintaining COSHH compliance and advising on COSHH risk assessments
- Supporting activities to ensure environmental aspects and impacts meet legislative requirements
- Working to ensure all waste management standards and energy usage requirements are compliant
- Supporting the SHE manager in the application of the environmental management systems, including recording keeping, documentation, and operational matters
- Assisting the SHE manager on improvement initiatives
- Keeping up to date with all new legislation and best practice in SHE advice
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- NEBOSH Certificate
- Experience of Health and Safety Management Systems
- Breadth of Health and Safety knowledge
- Extensive Health and Safety experience
- Team Player/adaptable
- Ability to work with and influence a broad range of staff and management
- Experience of working with Facilities and Building Services departments
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Experience of writing safety procedures and guidance

- Experience of the implementation of the HSMS ISO 45001
- Experience of non-UK Health and Safety Legislation e.g., OSHA
- Degree in science or engineering

- Experience working with senior management and the creation of plans
