Overview

The System Engineering and Test department are looking to grow their capacity within RF and Hardware Testing and seek a test engineer to complement their team. This job will see you working on innovative technology, both to improve our designs, and to maintain a high standard. To this end, we are looking for candidate that can adapt to the rising challenges of varied product development, but can apply a meticulous eye to the rigour of formal verification.

 

What you’ll be doing

 This will be a hands-on position working with design and test engineers throughout a product development lifecycle to provide empirical data to support design decisions, through to verification, pre-compliance, and supporting formal approvals. You will need good attention to detail in preparation of test plans and in analysis of results for reporting. As well as working with our clients on product development, you will also maintain and improve the lab spaces, identifying and closing gaps in our capabilities through equipment upgrades and improving our processes.

Your work will be varied, both in approach, and in project.

You will primarily be working on wireless products such as satellite communications systems, you may also support development of surgical implants, consumer devices and more. 

You will have the opportunity to work on ground-breaking wireless designs, for example:

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Analogue, digital and RF testing
  • Routine work DC to 6GHz, with >100GHz and optical testing becoming more frequent
  • Preparation of test plans and reports
  • Specify, identify, and procure test equipment
  • Conduct pre-compliance EMC tests
  • Support approvals with test houses
  • Manage RF Labs

 

You will have

  • Solid understanding of analogue, digital and RF principles, antennas
  • Familiarity with radio compliance directives and governing bodies (CISPR, IEC 61000, ETSI, FCC, RED, etc)
  • Experience with test instruments (eg VNAs Spectrum Analysers and Signal Generators)
  • Awareness of different test methodologies
  • Familiarity of communications protocols, for example Bluetooth, WLAN, 5G, etc.

Ideally, you will also have experience with

  • Antennas
  • EMC
  • mmWave, Radar, etc.
  • Python
  • JIRA or similar issue tracking application
  • Antenna test ranges / EMC chambers
