Introduction

The Safety, Health & Environment Department delivers and promotes safe and good environmental working practices across Cambridge Consultants.

We are responsible for supporting and advising the huge variety of staff, who work in a vast range of fields including medical, wireless communications, consumer, industrial and energy. The SHE team is also responsible for ensuring that our buildings and infrastructure are operated and maintained to appropriate H&S and Environmental standards that are aligned with company policies.

An overview

The Environmental Specialist is a brand-new role at Cambridge Consultants, and we’re looking for someone to make it their own and bring fresh ideas to the table. We’re already passionate about sustainability and the environment, with sustainability being a top priority in Cambridge Consultants’ 5-year plan, so we need an equally passionate person to drive our environmental plans in the right direction.

You will be joining the SHE team, which currently has 7 other members, and you’ll also work closely alongside a variety of people in the wider business. Including other support teams, and from engineers to scientists to our leadership team.

This job will be challenging and most definitely varied (and hopefully fun!). We’re an adaptable company and need someone with a similar mindset.

This is a hands-on role with plenty of opportunity to hold in-person meetings, presentations, and training sessions. All in aid of developing strong internal relationships and promoting a culture of sustainability across the organisation.

Our HQ is in Cambridge, which is where you’ll be based, but we’re a global business so you’ll support our offices across US and Asia too.

What you’ll be doing

As mentioned above, the responsibilities of this role are very diverse. Here’s a list of the types of things you’ll be responsible for and involved in:

  • Supporting the SHE manager in the application of the environmental management systems ISO14001 including recording keeping, documentation, and operational matters
  • Supporting the SHE Manager with the creation and implementation of the annual environment and energy plan and objectives
  • Participate in internal and external environmental compliance audits
  • Support the SHE manager to ensure compliance with all current environmental legislation, codes of practice and relevant standards globally
  • Leading on compliance with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)
  • Leading on compliance with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)
  • Leading on regular environmental data gathering analysis and reporting
  • Supporting on two-way communication with stakeholders and environmental engagement throughout the business
  • Providing advice on opportunities for improvement in environment energy and sustainability management and reduction of environmental impact
  • Supporting and advising, and in some cases leading on sustainability initiatives to achieve carbon reductions that relate to science-based targets, carbon neutral, and/or net zero
  • Identifying and providing advice on environmental risks and opportunities
  • Investigation of environmental incidents with the SHE manager
  • Identifying improvements to and running of environmental training
  • Working to ensure all waste management standards and energy usage requirements are compliant
  • Assisting the SHE manager on Environmental improvement initiatives
  • Keeping up to date with all new legislation and best practice in Environmental advice

Requirements

We’re looking for candidates with experience in the following:

  • IEMA or NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate
  • Experience of Environmental Management Systems e.g., ISO:14001
  • In depth knowledge of current Environmental Legislation
  • Breadth of Environment and Sustainability knowledge
  • Experience of working with and advising on Environmental matters in the workplace
  • Experience working with senior management and the creation of plans

The following would be advantageous; however, we would still strongly encourage you to apply without:

  • Degree in an environmental related discipline
  • Experience of practical working in a scientific engineering environment
  • Experience of non-UK Environmental Legislation
  • IEMA or NEBOSH Environmental Management Diploma
  • Membership of IEMA
