We are looking for an exceptional Industrial Designer to join our award-winning creative team. Our design team create breakthrough physical and digital products for some of the world’s most innovative brands! They look to us to shape their future!

If you have proven skills and design flair, our creative team could be the one for you! This is a hands-on role where the ability to visualise and deliver exciting user centred solutions is essential. The role is based in our ICE (Industrial, Consumer and Energy) department, which really means we work on a wide variety of exciting and innovative projects across a broad range of sectors. It is an excellent opportunity for you to become immersed in a highly demanding and creative environment.

What you will be doing!

Championing user experience and brand is central to our work, and Industrial Designers lead this thinking for our clients. You will work in diverse multifunctional project teams together with highly talented engineers, scientists and designers to generate innovative solutions and develop world-leading products for our clients around the globe. You will contribute to a wide variety of product development projects and your creativity will help expand our design offering at Cambridge Consultants.

Day to day you will use your core skills in industrial design, sketching, and design thinking to:

  • Contribute ideas to creative workshops, create storyboards to communicate user interactions, mock up concepts into 3D models, create concept renderings and animations and attend user studies to research user needs and evaluate designs.
  • Package the creative content produced into digestible presentations or updates for clients and wider development teams. There will be opportunities to interact with clients and manage design activities within projects.
  • Bring a design and user centred mindset to each project. Championing user experience and brand within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Share your skills and experience with the wider design team whilst also receiving mentorship from experienced designers.

What you can bring!

  • You will be a talented and creative Industrial Designer who is an enthusiastic team player!
  • You will have a top degree in Industrial Design or a related design discipline
  • An excellent portfolio demonstrating your visual flair, meticulous attention to detail and ability to communicate innovative designs in a clear and attractive way 
  • Strong visualisation (including hand sketching) and communication skills that effectively convey ideas to clients and wider project teams
  • Experience in an Industrial Design consultancy or in-house development team
  • Good working knowledge of how manufacturing and assembly processes affect design choices, from one off designs to high volume manufacture
  • Proficient in using the Adobe Creative Suite, 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and 3D rendering (e.g., Keyshot/Blender)

  • An interest in user experience (UX) design and designing digital interfaces (UI)
  • Experience running qualitative user testing and analysing insights
  • Good model making and sketch modelling ability (foam, card, 3D printing)
  • Experience developing 3D animations
