We are looking for an exceptional Industrial Designer to join our award-winning creative team. Our design team create breakthrough physical and digital products for some of the world’s most innovative brands! They look to us to shape their future!

If you have proven skills and design flair, our creative team could be the one for you! This is a hands-on role where the ability to visualise and deliver exciting user centred solutions is essential. The role is based in our ICE (Industrial, Consumer and Energy) department, which really means we work on a wide variety of exciting and innovative projects across a broad range of sectors. It is an excellent opportunity for you to become immersed in a highly demanding and creative environment.

What you will be doing!

Championing user experience and brand is central to our work, and Industrial Designers lead this thinking for our clients. You will work in diverse multifunctional project teams together with highly talented engineers, scientists and designers to generate innovative solutions and develop world-leading products for our clients around the globe. You will contribute to a wide variety of product development projects and your creativity will help expand our design offering at Cambridge Consultants.

Day to day you will use your core skills in industrial design, sketching, and design thinking to:

  • Define, lead and manage the design in large, multi-disciplinary projects which may include: facilitating creative workshops, leading client presentations, defining stakeholder needs, generating design concepts, producing CAD models, creating renderings and animations, or crafting stories to convey future concept visions
  • Contribute to commercial activities by working closely with business developers and project managers to plan design activities and provide design input to proposals, and build successful relationships with our clients.
  • Mentor junior designers to develop their creative capabilities, and share your skills and experience with the wider design team.

What you can bring!

  • You will be a talented and creative Industrial Designer who is an enthusiastic team player!
  • You will have a degree in Industrial Design or a related design discipline
  • Substantial experience in an Industrial Design consultancy or in-house development team
  • An excellent portfolio demonstrating your visual flair and experience working on multidisciplinary product design and development projects 
  • Strong visualisation (including hand sketching) and communication skills that effectively convey ideas to clients and wider project teams
  • Demonstrable experience of interacting with clients to sell and inspire design confidence
  • An excellent knowledge of how manufacturing and assembly processes affect design choices, from one off designs to high volume manufacture
  • Highly proficient in using the Adobe Creative Suite, 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and 3D rendering (e.g., Keyshot/Blender).

  • Proficient in user experience (UX) design and designing digital interfaces (UI)
  • A strong understanding of user research methods and experience of interpreting user needs into exciting design concepts.
