We are looking for a Class III Medical Devices engineer with experience in designing and bringing innovative implants to market, to work within our Medical Technology division. This is a permanent role in a nurturing environment, where we will build on your existing experience and provide exciting opportunities working with a wide range of companies and technologies. What will you be doing?

A Class III Medical Devices engineer at Cambridge Consultants will be expected to work on a wide range of projects as part of diverse project teams. You will join the MedTech Electronics Engineering Group which contains a broad range of analogue and digital electronics engineers along with RF specialists and antenna designers.

As part of a multi-disciplinary global smart implants team

  • You will be leading and developing the next generation of implantable medical devices, you will be problem solving and managing tasks from all stages of the medical product development process. Project work may range from architecture creation to detailed design to supporting verification and regulatory activities depending on the project and the client needs. You will be expected to lead and deliver class III design solutions working collaboratively with others to deliver impact for our clients.
  • You will be taking part in developing active implantable device development projects (e.g., neuromodulation implants, stimulation leads and brain interface, wearable and implantable sensors, cardiac implants etc). Your Class III and ISO 10993 experience will help you understand and define requirements and drivers, explore technical and regulatory challenges, and contribute to the definition of technical design solutions which fulfil the implant use case and regulatory requirements. Active implantable devices require collaboration, and you will work closely with a range of experts to produce a final designed product.

Even in your first week at CC, you can expect to start contributing towards a client project. Depending on your specific experience, the roles you are given on projects will vary and you will have the opportunity to request certain responsibilities if they are available and feasible.

What can you bring?

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant area (e.g. Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics), equivalent academic qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Industry
  • A strong understanding of fundamental electronics principles as they relate to Class III and wearable medical products
  • Experience of design and development of, and regulatory process for, implantable products

Here are some additional areas of experience you could bring but not essential! 

  • Specific knowledge of medical development or active implant regulations
  • Experience with specification of materials in accordance with biocompatibility (for example ISO10993)
  • Experience designing and manufacturing for pre-clinical prototype qualification
  • Knowledge of practical anatomy or physiology as relates to implants
  • Leadership experience of engineering activities, including task leadership or project management
  • Prior consulting experience or experience in communication with external stakeholders
