We are looking for an experienced leader to enhance our mechanical assembly capabilities, to assist our engineering team as we define what’s possible and manage the transition as we upgrade our internal facilities, and expand the range of services offered by our Prototype Development Workshop.

The Role

You will lead a team of technicians providing design support and manufacturing expertise to our project teams across a wide range of product designs.

The projects your teams will work on will be technically challenging and involve teams from across the business to span numerous disciplines over multiple geographies. Clients and projects will vary across technologies and sectors and stages in the project lifecycle. Your role is to ensure that the skills and capabilities within your department embody the excellence that Cambridge Consultants is renowned for and are relevant to our target market sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing the future evolution of the department, including how your department is structured, and what the skills and technology focus should be to create a compelling business asset
  • Marketing your department, internally and externally, working closely with the Technician Group leaders to develop positioning and collateral
  • Working with project teams to triage and support new opportunities from within your department
  • Working with Project Managers to resource projects, aligning project needs with the available skills and services - facilitating team meetings and design reviews, discussing technical trade-offs, monitoring and mitigating technical risks, and asking the right questions to understand project status
  • Providing career guidance for people in your department and taking an active role in developing their careers
  • Working with our SHE and QA departments to ensure adherence to the required safety and quality standards

What you can bring

  • Extensive experience managing technical teams
  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written) as well as organisational, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in defining and documenting process and procedure
  • Experience with CNC machining using CAD/CAM (Solidworks)
  • Knowledge of manual milling, lathes and drilling

It would also be great if you had the following, but it is not essential:

  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication
  • Wiring experience – including safety critical and manufacture to IPC standards
  • Experience of working to ISO9001 and ISO13485
