We are looking for an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our Analytical Laboratories team within the Medical Technology Division.

Our Medical Technology Division develops cutting edge medical devices using rigorous processes, whilst maintaining an informal and friendly environment. It is a great place to work, encouraging innovation and is filled with people with a real passion for excellence in engineering.

You will work within teams of engineers, physicists, scientists, and biologists on major development projects, applying your valuable laboratory expertise to the testing and verification of medical devices.

The Division's activities fall into four focus areas:

  • Drug Delivery Devices
  • Wireless devices / eHealth
  • Surgical and Interventional Products
  • Medical Diagnostics and Instrumentation

Role Description 

As a laboratory technician you will be involved in the following aspects:

  • Evaluation and verification testing of various devices or systems under development
  • Helping and cooperating with those you work with to develop test methods and novel testing methods
  • Supporting and helping our physicists/engineers tackling complex testing problems
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions and comply with health and safety rules in place in each working area.  
  • You will be required to produce high quality, traceable test work in accordance with the company’s quality management system
  • Accurately record and report results clearly to fellow team members
  • You will help to maintain a safe and professional laboratory working environment
  • Your workload will be delegated by project managers or the Laboratory manager.

What you can bring

Ideally you will have experience of a working laboratory or test house with a hands-on approach to lab procedures in a methodical, careful and safe way. As a laboratory technician you will be involved in the evaluation and verification testing of various devices or systems, from prototypes to fully formed products/devices. Experience of mechanical testing of medical devices would be particularly advantageous.

You will also be proactive and self-motivated, whilst also able to adapt to changing demands and requirements.  Ideally you will also have good verbal, written and communications skills, capable of conducting essential safety training for the engineers and scientists and to provide guidance on the use of the equipment in the labs

In addition, any experience of the following would be advantageous: 

  • Ideally you will hold HNC, BTEC, A levels or GCSE qualifications within a relevant field – Science, particularly physics – however higher qualifications will also be considered
  • A knowledge of Lab View or basic Python programming skills 
  • A knowledge of force testing equipment, such as Mecmesin Force test stands, or equivalent
