At Cambridge Consultants, we have placed ourselves at the cutting-edge of biotechnology, as we pursue some of the most exciting and ground-breaking opportunities at the intersection of biology, engineering and advanced computation.

We are looking for a driven and passionate scientist to join our team within the Medical Technology Division and support this varied and challenging initiative. As a Biologist, you will help drive developments in areas such as cell therapies, regenerative medicine, engineered proteins, and single-cell multi-omics.

Your role

As a Biologist, you will work autonomously in our labs, support our bioinnovation campaign and provide specialist technical experience and expertise within our project teams to ensure our bioinnovation projects are executed efficiently and to the highest quality.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to collaborate with a global team of engineers, physicists and biologists to solve complex, multidisciplinary challenges. You will develop and carry out experimental protocols for handling tissue, cells, microbes and genetic material and present the results and conclusions of this experimental work to clients.

You will also contribute towards planning and quoting of biology-based projects by providing expert input regarding strategy, time and effort in order to execute biology-based tasks, and help to find new opportunities for our company and our clients by contributing to the Bioinnovation campaign.

You will help develop our internal pool of expertise by:

  • Working independently in our biology labs to grow our bioinnovation capabilities
  • Conceiving of and carrying out novel projects that push boundaries at the intersection of biology, engineering and advanced computation.
  • Further developing our protocols and techniques used to characterise cells, nucleic acids, proteins and metabolites
  • Bringing diverse experience to the table, for example, in stem cell therapy, regenerative medicine, omic based analysis, novel imaging techniques or bioinformatics

There will be occcasional travel as required to meet and engage with clients.

What you can bring

You will have a PhD-level qualification in cell biology, molecular biology or a related biology focused scientific discipline, with an excellent academic record. Hands-on experience in culturing and modifying cells, techniques for analysing and imaging cells (e.g. microscopy), design of experiments, and data analysis is required.

In addition you will have a broad knowledge of the biotechnology landscape, including but not limited to gene editing techniques, omics, sequencing technologies. bioinformatics and methods for single-cell analysis. You will require strong communication skills and an affinity to working in multi-disciplinary teams.

The following are not required, but any experience/skill in these areas would be advantageous:

  • Experience in a commercial setting, in particular, with a focus on cutting-edge technology development
  • Significant experience in mammalian cell biology
  • Knowledge of computational biology, bioinformatics and use of AI/ML and software tools to process large datasets
  • Experience working with medical devices and an understanding of development processes for therapeutics, implants and cGMP
