We are looking for someone to join our growing business consulting team. You may be a Junior Consultant looking to take the next step up in your career or be a more experienced Consultant looking to broaden and expand on your current skills and knowledge.

Cambridge Consultants is one of the world’s leading product development companies, with a reputation for cutting-edge design, development and value creation for a global client base. Our business consultants provide the commercial context for technology developments, making the case for change and bringing ideas into reality.

You will have the ability to inspire change and be a dynamic and creative innovator to help companies generate exciting ideas with market potential. You will be the person who can help a CTO spot the next R&D investment opportunity, or a CIO ideate new products/services that address future consumer or customer needs.

What we can offer

This is an exciting time to join our small, focussed team of strategy consultants as we have an ambition to grow our strategy consulting practice significantly over the next 2-3 years.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to join or lead multidisciplinary teams of consultants and engineers to define and deliver projects that provide high impact strategic qualitative and quantitative insights for clients.

You will design and facilitate dynamic, high-energy client-facing workshops (virtual and physical); interview commercial, technical and operational opinion leaders and conduct secondary research. With these findings you will subsequently summarise and communicate these insights through report writing and presentations. In addition, you will support the sales of advisory services.

Our consulting activities are centred primarily in Europe and the US, but with a growing client base in Asia. Project work is usually based in the Cambridge UK office but with regular client workshops on client sites. (NB The Covid-19 pandemic is temporarily restricting travel and office-based working so on a temporary basis, much of our business is being conducted remotely).

What you can bring

You will have experience of delivering technical consulting assignments for external senior stakeholders to address strategic issues, whilst also being a confident facilitator or workshop-based sessions.

Ideally you will have developed generalist consulting skills and familiarity of using common consulting tools, frameworks and methodologies, with strong experience of analysis and an ability to generate usable insight. Ideally you would be experienced in delivery of at least some of the following project types: new concept generation and ideation, technology opportunity analysis, market opportunity identification and technology landscape or roadmap development.

Strong interpersonal and team working skills are important to this role, as is a well organised and structured approach to problem solving and excellent oral and written communication.

As you can imagine, this role requires excellent time management skills but it would also be a great benefit to have an eye for design so that reports, presentations, workshop materials and briefing documents can have a polished feel when working to tight deadlines.

It would also be great if you had any of the below, but it’s not essential:

  • Experience of the process of selling fee-for-service consulting
  • Have demonstrated market understanding of at least one of the following markets: agriculture, renewable energy, energy management, industrial or consumer
  • Be technically literate and able to work with technical/engineering colleagues to synthesise their expertise into strategic insight
  • Experience in mentoring more junior colleagues from wide-ranging technical and commercial backgrounds
