We are looking for an accomplished engineer to join our team, who can own the electronics solution on medium to large projects and lead a team of electronics engineers from the front. You’ll need a strong foundation in the fundamentals of electronics and a track record of successfully delivering challenging PCB designs, and have a genuine passion for engineering. This role is in the Electronic Design group within our Industrial, Consumer and Energy division.

Role description

Cambridge Consultants works on a wide range of product and system developments for a broad range of clients. You’ll start off by creating a solid reputation for yourself as a reliable, safe pair of hands for day-to-day electronic design across a mix of project teams as you work up towards technical leadership.

Projects we are currently working on that you could be involved in:

Every project we do is different – we are always innovating rather than iterating, so each new project will be a brand-new challenge. You could be working on an industrial robot on one project, then a smart wearable on the next.

What we can offer

We will provide you with the opportunity to have responsibilities across all stages of the product development life cycle such as:

  • Supporting or leading the scoping of new projects by understanding client requirements and identifying technical challenges
  • Development of system architectures in collaboration with engineers from other disciplines
  • Simulating and producing detailed analog, digital and mixed signal circuit designs
  • Develop schematics, oversee PCB layouts and generate and manage BOMs for multi-PCB product designs
  • Hands-on testing and debugging in the lab
  • Documenting the design
  • Supporting transfer to manufacture

As you gain experience in this role, you can develop in whichever direction you choose, whether that be senior technical leadership, technical project management, group leadership or a more sales-focussed role.

What you can bring

  • Strong academic background with an electronics related degree
  • Detailed understanding of the fundamentals of electronics (any or all of analogue, low power, low noise, high speed, power, RF etc) and a proven track record in designing and debugging challenging PCBs
  • Great communications skills – to both fellow team members and clients
  • Appreciation for the basics of other branches of engineering (e.g. mechanical, software, manufacturing, fluidics, optics etc)

It would also be great if you have some hands-on experience of EDA tools, Altium and/or Mentor Xpedition. Software development skills (C, C++, Python etc). Experience in volume manufacturing and/or system specification and architecture.
