Role Description

Our clients generally come to Cambridge Consultants with problems that are hard. In fact, the classic quote “If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire….” Cambridge Consultants is quite accurate (although Google Maps makes finding us easy these days). This means our RF Engineers are not just adding Bluetooth according to the reference design on the datasheet. Instead they are….

  • Designing discrete RF electronic circuits
  • Designing custom antennas to solve challenging problems
  • Prototype and de-risking
  • Pushing the envelope of what is possible
  • Thinking of innovative ways to solve difficult problems
  • And much more!

You would be backed up by tools and experience to accomplish this, with an established team of Engineers for you to join and learn from, along with state-of-the-art equipment such as our Satimo Stargate 64 which is the only anechoic radio and antenna test chamber of its type available for hire in Europe.

Specific Responsibilities

As a Senior RF Engineer at Cambridge Consultants you would be responsible for the technical delivery of the RF aspects of a client project. Projects have a very broad span, all the way from ideas generation, specification, de-risking, implementation, prototype, verification, transfer to manufacture and so on. You could be involved in some or all of these stages depending on a project.

Project responsibilities would vary between working on one large project at a time, to working on a number of smaller projects. You would be taking ownership and leading this work, with assistance from the experienced team around you, if required.

Remember that every project we do is different – we are always innovating rather than iterating, so each new project will be a brand-new challenge.

As you develop in your career at Cambridge Consultants there are a number of directions you could take:

  • Develop your technical expertise further and become a deep technical expert in a chosen area. This could also involve being the technical expert who convinces a client Cambridge Consultants are the right partner to solve their problem
  • Get more involved in technically leading larger parts of projects, being responsible for ensuring the technical solution meets the client’s needs
  • Get involved in managing projects, being responsible for ensuring the project meets the client’s budget and deadline

Minimum Requirements

Essential requirements for this role include;

  • Strong academic background with an electronics related degree
  • Analogue and RF Electronics design experience. e.g. RF LNAs, PA design and associated circuit
  • Antenna design experience
  • Hands on lab experience including prototyping and test equipment
  • Great communications skills – to both fellow team members and clients
  • Genuine passion for engineering

Desirable requirements include;

  • Experience with simulation tools such as CST and/or HFSS for custom antenna design
  • Experience with general circuit simulation tools and RF simulations tools such as MWO or ADS
